The Good-for-You Chocolate Milkshake

Happy National Chocolate Milkshake Day!

It seems like every day is some national holiday dedicated to food. Certain foods even get a whole month and week dedicated to themselves. Did you know September is National Bourbon Heritage, California Wine, Honey, Organic Harvest, Whole Grains and Breakfast Month? {and that’s only to mention a few…} You can check out all the holidays for the rest of this week and month here.

It might be that I’ve known about these upcoming holidays that’s got me craving ice cream and milkshakes for the past week!! I caved yesterday and had my very first Sonic shake, thick vanilla ice scream swirled with snickers…just what I needed! But not so comforting for my waistline. It’s been so beautiful these days that this morning I decided to take my run onto my usual hiking trail and figured why not make my post-workout shake a chocolate milkshake.

A chocolate milkshake that is healthy for you? You may think it’s not possible but you’d be surprised how something that’s good for you, can still be satisfying. I had some leftover over silken tofu and yogurt from my last post-run shake, but you can use just yogurt or replace it entirely with your choice of milk. The easiest way to make a healthy chocolate shake is with protein powder, but I added an extra boost with organic cocoa powder and fresh spinach. You must be thinking chocolate, tofu, banana and spinach?? Well, you don’t taste the spinach, you’re just benefitting from the added vitamins.

The next time you want a frozen treat, I challenge you to experiment with healthier ingredients!

The Good-for-You Chocolate Milkshake

Ingredients

1/2 to 1 cup – Water/Ice {Add until the shake reaches the consistency you enjoy}

1/4 cup – Silken Tofu

1/4 cup – Plain Greek Yogurt

1 cup – Fresh Spinach

1 – Frozen Banana

1 scoop – Vegan Chocolate Protein Powder

1 tablespoon – Organic Cocoa Powder

Recipe

Place all the ingredients into a blender and blend until it reaches your desired consistency.
